Without the wonderful contributions of organizations and individuals in Canada’s insurance industry and beyond, WICC Ontario never be able to execute its mission – nor raise $10 million since inception for the Canadian Cancer Society.
That’s why WICC Ontario recognizes its supporters numerous ways, including its prestigious annual awards.
Each year, the selection process begins with a review by the WICC Ontario board of directors of the many contributors to the organization, including analysis of our five-year donations reports. Board members then nominate the individuals and entities they believe to have demonstrated exceptional advocacy, commitment and support to WICC Ontario. Finally, the list of nominees is put to a vote by the board.
The results of this year’s selection process were revealed at WICC Ontario’s 2019 Gala on May 8th in Toronto. During a special ceremony, co-chairs Marilyn Horrick and Ellen Moore presented the following awards to their richly deserving winners:
The Gold Flame Award is presented to individuals or organizations that have made donations exceeding $5,000 and/or made significant contributions through commitment and raising awareness.
This year, two organizations were worthy of the award: AppCentrica, and the Insurance Bureau of Canada (IBC).
Quietly supporting WICC from behind the scenes, AppCentricahas provided web services to each of WICC’s chapters for the past five years and donated back the costs of these services, which amount to roughly $50,000 a year.
Over the past three years, the Insurance Bureau of Canada has generously contributed total donations of more than $5,000 for speaker honorariums. WICC is honoured to receive these donations from IBC.
The Lew Dunn Memorial Award is presented to the volunteer or company demonstrating exceptional initiative in raising awareness and commitment in support of WICC. Lew Dunn was a CEO of CGU Canada (now Aviva Canada) who lost his battle with cancer in 1999.
The winner of this year’s award is Marian Adamsonof Crawford Canada.
Marian has been formidable in her capacity to lead committees and inspire others with her unwavering commitment to WICC. Marian has chaired various WICC Ontario events, including the Gala and GTA Golf fundraiser. Marian has been instrumental in keeping WICC top of mind and promoting our mission within her organization, which is one of the main reasons why Crawford Cares continues to identify WICC as its charity of choice.
The Hall of Flame Award is presented to individuals or organizations that have made donations exceeding $20,000 and/or made significant contributions through commitment and raising awareness.
This year’s recipient of the WICC Hall of Flame Award is McKellar Structured Settlements.
WICC has long been the charity of choice for McKellar, which is both a National Sponsor and has consistently donated the proceeds of its annual Golf Tournament to WICC. In fact, McKellar has contributed to WICC in every year since WICC’s founding in 1996. This year marks the fifth time McKellar’s unwavering commitment to WICC has been recognized with one of our annual awards: it received the Gold Flame Award in 2003 and 2015, and the Lew Dunn Memorial Award in 2001 and 2010.
Congratulations again to all of our 2019 award winners!
