New Faces on the WICC Board

Providing renewed energy and dedication to our team, please join us in welcoming the following new members to the WICC Ontario Chapter Board of Directors.

Rebecca O’Brien joins the Board replacing retiring Executive Director, Alexis Heatherington. Alexis contributed greatly to WICC during her five years on the WICC Ontario Board, putting her exceptional organizational, critical thinking and collaboration skills to good use. Help was never far away with Alexis in the role; supportive at every turn, offering her time and talents to anyone, any event, and anywhere. Alexis ran point on such important and transformative projects as the revitalization of the WICC website and the National Sponsor recognition program. We will miss her natural, calm demeanour and uncanny ability to remember the details of every activity afoot across the WICC system. Please join us in wishing Alexis all the best in her future plans!

Rebecca O’Brien — Chair, Exec Director WICC ON
(Prior experience Marsh HR)
Arriving in Canada from Ireland almost seven years ago, I continued my career in Human Resources within the insurance industry and made some really great friends. I’m now in a place where I have an opportunity to make a change yet stay within the industry I know so well. WICC and the great work that it does for cancer research has long been on my radar, so when the chance presented itself to become an active part of such a worthy organization, I was proud to accept. I also feel very privileged to have the opportunity to join the crusade against cancer alongside such wonderful, dedicated individuals.

Kathy Bond — Co-Chair, Ottawa Chapter
Intact Insurance, Manager, Business Development – Ottawa and Eastern Ontario
My involvement with WICC has been driven by wanting to do more for those in need in our communities.  I have friends and family who have suffered from cancer and if I can do just a little something to make a difference within my industry then that brings me a lot of joy.  This is a fantastic organization to be a part of with hard working and dedicated professionals all wanting to make a difference.  My goal is to bring as many events to Ottawa as we can throughout the year and put the money towards a specific grant.

Christine Lacroix — Co-Chair, Ottawa Chapter
Diresco, Office Manager
I worked at The Co-operators for 20 years as an adjuster and participated in many of the WICC events. Shortly, after joining my husband at Diresco, I had pleasure to join Marcella and help at the Ottawa Drive Fore Hope for 4 years. It was a great opportunity to work with such a solid team and give back to our community. When Marcella retired, I was given the opportunity to chair the event and I’ve gladly accepted. Too many friends, family, and co-workers have been affected by this terrible disease and I want to help to find a cure.

Victoria Rochon — Chair, Community Relations
Roar Engineering Inc., Forensic Engineering
I originally became involved with WICC through the National Sponsorship Program with Roar Engineering. The heart of why I wanted to join WICC’s Ontario Board of Directors is because my family has been hugely impacted by Cancer. Recently in the past year, I have lost two close family members to Cancer. I have seen the effects the disease has on loved ones and want to help those touched by Cancer by increasing my involvement with WICC. I’ve been continuously impressed by WICC’s initiatives and recognize WICC’s impact in the fight against Cancer. The insurance industry is constantly growing as companies evolve and young professionals join our community. My goal is to expand WICC’s reach within the industry and ultimately gain additional support for Cancer research and education.

Over the past 21 years, the WICC Ontario Board has benefited from the unwavering dedication and passion of its volunteer Board of Directors. Please join us in welcoming these new individuals to our WICC Ontario Board.

If you’re interested in volunteering for WICC in any way, please send a note to info@wicc.ca
