Support WICC at Relay For Life

100 percent of funds raised goes directly to cancer research

May 29, 2015 (TORONTO) – Women In Insurance Cancer Crusade (WICC) is pleased to once again support the Canadian Cancer Society’s Relay For Life events across Ontario. This year, WICC will host the first-ever insurance industry-exclusive Relay For Life event in downtown Toronto on June 12th at the Garrison Commons at Fork York.

By either donating to any WICC participant or team, joining the industry-exclusive event or by participating with a WICC team at one of the more than 70 other Relay For Life events across the province, 100 percent of the funds donated to will go directly to support cancer research through the Canadian Cancer Society.

“Relay For Life is not only a great event that brings together colleagues, friends and families but is also an excellent opportunity to raise money for a worthy cause,” said Paul Martin, President & COO, RRJ Insurance Group Ltd. & Co-Chair, WICC Relay For Life. “Pick WICC this Relay For Life so that together, we can make great strides to fight cancer.”

WICC has supported Relay For Life for the last six years and continues to be a very significant corporate contributor through sponsorship and fundraising. Since its inception, WICC has raised over $11.2 million to support cancer research.

Relay For Life is the Canadian Cancer Society’s signature fundraiser walk. People can participate at any age or fitness level. Every step taken helps fund promising cancer research, community support services and other important work so that fewer Canadians are touched by the disease.

“It’s still not too late to join this year’s industry-exclusive event,” said Susan Drodge, Director, Corporate and Community Partnerships for Canadian Cancer Society in Ontario. “Join online or donate to the cause. Money raised funds hundreds of Canada’s best and brightest researchers who are working tirelessly towards the next cancer breakthrough to save lives.”

Regular physical activity helps protect against cancer. It’s also one of the best ways to stay at a healthy body weight, which reduces a person’s risk of cancer. It is for these reasons that the Canadian Cancer Society is introducing relay batons to the event and encouraging Relay For Life participants to set a distance goal for the event (e.g. one to five KM or more) on an individual or team basis.
