5th Annual National Sponsor Appreciation Luncheon

We are pleased to announce the date and exciting change of format for WICC’s 5th annual National Sponsor Appreciation Luncheon. This is an invitation only event for National Sponsors.

This year’s event will be held on: Monday, March 4th at the University of Toronto, St. George campus. This year, Dr. Warren Chan, a CCS grant recipient, has offered to open up his lab to us for a 10.00am tour with an 11:00am talk and then lunch onsite from noon to 1:30pm.

Dr. Chan currently has an Innovation Grant funded by Canadian Cancer Society.

Some information about Dr. Chan’s current grant:

Using nanoparticles to deliver drugs to tumours

Tiny nanoparticles designed to carry cancer-fighting drugs to tumours have shown promising activity in the lab but delivering enough of them to the tumour site remains a challenge. If nanoparticles are injected into the body, most of them get trapped and removed by cells in the liver. Dr Warren Chan will test a new way to improve nanoparticle delivery. It involves using a drug to partially block liver clearance, followed by the nanoparticles. This research will help Dr Chan design new nanoparticles that will be more effective by increasing the number that reach the tumour site.

Location on University of Toronto campus:

Terrence Donnelly Centre for Cellular & Biomolecular Research

160 College St, Toronto, ON M5S 3E1

The Black room (Room 260) is on the 2nd floor and is tiled in black. There is metered parking on King’s College Circle and nearby streets. The closest subway is Queen’s Park station, closest streetcar stop is McCaul.

Please contact WICC Executive Director, Rebecca O’Brien, at info@wicc.ca by February 8th, to confirm attendance for yourself and a guest.
