On Wednesday, April 22nd the P&C community gathered for the 19th anniversary WICC Gala Dinner held at the Westin Harbour Castle Hotel in downtown Toronto. Close to 600 gathered to mingle and ‘misbehave’ in the Metropolitan Ballroom in a Prohibition Party celebration of the by-gone era of the 1920’s and 30’s. Attendees were treated to a cocktail hour, live performers, themed photo booth, an on-site authentic 1930’s Model A Ford, and silent and live auctions. Everyone embraced the theme party – showing up in their best flapper and mobster wear. Costume pearls and fedoras were also handed out to guests.
Following a delicious 3 course dinner WICC presented its annual awards. Congratulations to the following WICC 2014 Award Recipients:
Jean Faulkner, Lew Dunn Memorial Award
Paul Martin (RRJ Insurance Group), Lew Dunn Memorial Award
Canadian Underwriter Magazine/Insurance Media Group, Hall of Flame Award

Honoree Paul Martin shared the following kind words.
To WICC Board:
“I just wanted to say how honoured I was to be selected for this great award. There are so many individuals that go above and beyond in support of WICC and the great work it does. I do believe that volunteerism is important and has made me a better person and allowed me to meet and interact with great people like yourselves. You should all be thanks deeply for the volunteer work you do and the time you put into WICC.
Thank you all I am humbled by this honour.”

Martin Kabat, CEO, Canadian Cancer Society spoke of WICC’s incredible fundraising achievements. Thanks to P&C community support WICC is the Canadian Cancer Society’s most important corporate contributor – having raised over $11 million since its inception in 1996. WICC Gala Event Co-chairs, Sandy MacSpadyen and Michael Butler along with WICC Ontario Board Co-Chairs, Ellen Moore and Marilyn Horrick; were thrilled to present Martin Kabat and Susan Drodge (Director, Corporate and Community Partnerships & Donor Services) with a ‘big cheque’ for $200,000; 100% of which will go directly to life-saving cancer research.
Thank you to all WICC National Sponsors and Event Sponsors who make the WICC Gala dinner possible! And to all of the dedicated committee members and volunteers who work tirelessly throughout the year to bring this fun and important fundraising event to the P&C community.
