2020/21 WICC Recognition Awards

The 2020 WICC Recognition Awards, and 2021 Volunteer of the Year Award were announced by Marilyn Horrick, WICC ON Co-Chair, at the Ontario Virtual Learning Breakfast on November 17th. Usually recognition awards for the year prior are awarded in person at our Gala dinner in May, however this event was cancelled for 2021, so it was decided to announce the awards at Breakfast alongside our 2021 Volunteer of the Year.

2021 Volunteer of the Year Award: WICC would not exist without people volunteering their time to make events and fundraising happen. Over the years, some of our volunteers have gone way above and beyond and a few years ago we began a tradition to recognize these people.

We are delighted to announce this year’s winner of the WICC Ontario Volunteer of the Year Award – Sindy Houle.

Sindy has been a great asset to WICC this past year, volunteering on the Communications Committee and for several of the events we have held. She has worked on Relay for Life (including the video scripts and step challenge,) the new re-branding (extensive writing and planning support,) and the holiday boxes (recommending a photographer to take new images pro bono). She is passionate about WICC and giving back, and is always willing to help. The amount of time she has spent on WICC projects has been fairly significant, and spaced out over the year. Congratulations Sindy!

This year, the Lew Dunn Award goes to Ellen Moore former Chubb Canada President and CEO and past Co-Chair WICC Ontario Board of Directors.  Ellen, you’ve left a lasting and cherished mark on all of us within the WICC family, on the industry, and you’ve made a difference in the impact and trajectory of cancer research.
