At 8 a.m. this morning, Wednesday, November 4, insurance colleagues and friends from across the GTA and throughout the country, gathered as one for the first time since lockdown, for the industry’s favourite breakfast event. Panel speakers were WICC ON Co-Chairs, Marilyn Horrick and Garth Pepper, alongside Breakfast Co-Chairs, Donna Cassidy (Chubb) and Rose Cugliari (AIG). Also joining us on the panel was Dr. Raymond Reilly of U of T.
Every year, WICC hosts a Learning Breakfast to provide a cancer-related education session, showcase WICC dollars at work, and build community within the insurance industry. This year, we went virtual!
This special webinar version of WICC’s 23rd Annual Learning Breakfast educated our some 300 attendees about critical and fascinating work being done in the fight against cancer.
World-class researcher, Dr. Raymond Reilly, of the University of Toronto, provided attendees with a glimpse of the future of cancer detection and treatment. He also showcased his research developing novel radiopharmaceutical agents and explain how this ground-breaking work has the potential to enhance cancer diagnosis and help oncologists select personalized treatments based on the molecular characteristics of an individual’s tumour.
Dr. Reilly has a gift for delivering technical medical research in a way that is captivating and easy-to-understand for those of us who spend our days thinking about all things risk-related, so it was wonderful to have him join us this morning.
The event was free to attend but we requested an optional donation of $23, $1 for every year the WICC Learning Breakfast has been held. Along with our generous gold, silver and bronze sponsors, we are delighted to announce that we have managed to raise almost $30,000 for the Canadian Cancer Society! The 2019 Recognition Awards, and 2020 Volunteer of the Year Award were also announced at the Ontario Virtual Learning Breakfast. Usually recognition awards for the year before are awarded in person at our Gala dinner event, however this was cancelled for 2020, so it was decided to announce the awards at Breakfast alongside our 2020 Volunteer of the Year.
