2020 Annual Spring Casino Event – An Evening at the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver

Dear WICC BC Supporters,

WICC SPRING CASINO EVENT

We have been actively monitoring the recommendations of the World Health Organisation, the Public Health Agency of Canada and the BC Health Minister regarding coronavirus disease (COVID-19) and are fully supporting the efforts of public health officials to stop the spread of the disease. As you are no doubt aware, one of the social distancing measures is directing organisations in BC to cancel events where more than 250 people may be gathered.

To protect the health and well-being of our supporters, we are postponing the year’s Spring Casino Event on 23rd April, and will be looking at all options to reschedule the evening in the near future. This was a difficult decision that was made in partnership between the WICC National, WICC BC Board, The Spring Event Organising Committee, the Canadian Cancer Society and the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver.

There is no doubt this is an unfortunate situation as the Casino Event is not only a much-anticipated event but also a meaningful way for people to show their support for the cancer cause. WICC and the CCS continues to need this support, especially at this time of increased health concern when people with cancer have heightened exposure and may be dealing with feelings of anxiety or isolation. The reality is that cancer will not stop no matter the situation and people facing this disease need us now more than ever.

We would like to express our sincere gratitude for the tremendous work our committee has done over the last number of months to prepare for this event, and for the support of our sponsors – both regular and new – as well as those who have already purchased tickets.

Please be assured we will work closely with the hotel and other vendors to arrange a suitable alternate date and will be in touch with you again soon.
